Bones to AshesGot the tenth book in the Bones series, Bones to Ashes, out of the library last week. This one juxtaposes the investigation into a series of cold cases of missing and/or dead girls against the story of the disappearance and personal investigation of a childhood friend of the heroine. Are the cases related? Is she on a wild goose chase? These are the questions your left pondering as you enter the story.Couple these dramatics with the off again relationship with detective Ryan and the reappearance of her annoying sister and you’ve got the formulaic mystery once again.

Have to admit, I liked the start of the story, reading about Tempe’s not so great childhood; it was good getting some of that back story. But the implausibility of the monkey wrench thrown into her relationship with Ryan, coupled with me figuring out what the anomaly was with the mysterious old bones she was analyzing,

a full thirteen chapters before the preeminent forensic anthropologist of her time figured it out, left me once again scratching my head as to why I read this series.

Oh yeah, I remember, they’re free from my library and quick. However, a couple more like this and I will finally give up on them as I did with Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta books. The one good thing I can say about this, at least this time, it appears our heroine was a bit more cautious about putting herself in danger.  Anyway, definitely two stars on the Goodreads scale.
